So I've gone through various life stages with fake tan, My first memory? My gorgeous Auntie decided it would greatly enrich mine and my sister's lives if we knew how to tan our legs (true) - it was when St Tropez had first hit the scene with Vicky Beckham extolling its virtues so we had to try. She'd read up on a routine in Hello! magazine, one that's now second nature - exfoliate then tan it up! We did, left it on for a few hours, washed off and could NOT believe the results - whole new world right there.
Then ladies and gents I became far too familiar with the stuff. Got it all wrong. First I was all sweet and innocent, Xen Tan Gradual natural look kinda stuff, but put a girl in Leeds for a Law Conversion course and she joins the 'darker the better' brigade. Once you find St Moritz going for pennies in a bargain shop off the high street it's hard to resist - cue nights lathering the stuff on and deciding to (shock, horror) not wash it off!! Thank god the St Moritz guide colour errs on the natural side of brown. And that the greener Dark edition hadn't made itself known by that point. Can you imagine?!
Next a move to London meant things calmed down a tad. Better tans came out - although St Moritz remains a firm fave, and getting into beauty journalism meant I came to know the rules better than anyone. I ALWAYS wore a mitt - not the plastic gloves I used to pinch from petrol stations, I ALWAYS washed it off, and I ALWAYS keep tabs on my colour - I wasn't born olive skinned, so I shouldn't try to be.
So now you're all clued in on my tanning ups and downs, it's time to intro you to my five tanning loves, here goes...
